WRITE-TRAK SCHOOLS CAROUSEL TASTER SESSIONS
MID KENT COLLEGE INFORMATION SHEET
Write-Trak joined the school’s partnership programme at Mid Kent College some years ago. This has proven to be an important opportunity for young learners to experience what it is like to work in a college environment. We have seen how successful this has been in helping our students transition from Write-Trak to further education/college including a variety of vocational subject areas.
From year 10 upwards, we encourage all students to participate in this programme. The college taster sessions are always popular with our learners and we try our best to timetable each young person to the subject area of choice; although numbers are limited to maximum of 12 per session. If your child is selected to attend college, there are some things that you as parents may want to know.
- College taster sessions always take place on Fridays. Times of all sessions run from 10 am-12pm ( midday)
- Write-Trak students have workrooms within the college dedicated for their use during these times
- Students will have access to intensive support whilst in college. Two Write-Trak tutors regularly attend sessions. This will comprise of Laura Dent (Careers Tutor) and one other experienced tutor.
- Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) may be required for some subjects. Parents are asked to provide steel toe capped safety boots for their young person to wear if attending any Construction or Engineering based sessions. The college may be able to lend boots to students; however, sizes and availability are limited. Hair/Beauty students are asked to wear flat shoes with filled in toes. Attendees of Animal Care will require proof of tetanus vaccination.
Transport should continue as normal and in most cases the taxi service your young person has will remain; however, pick up times will change in accordance with start/finish times. If you live within less than a 3-mile radius to the college, which in most cases takes place at Maidstone Campus you may be asked to provide your own means of transport.
Timetable for the current year to be advised on courses available.
